Safety is one of the key divisions of AFCAC whose main objective is to promote aviation safety for all AU member States. The division is headed by the Director Safety & Technical who is assisted by a team of aviation safety experts.
In the next fifteen years, Statistics show that the current volume of air traffic worldwide is expected to double as global air traffic has been doubling in size once every 15 years since 1977. The air transport industry will therefore face different challenges in enhancing the global aviation safety system. International Organizations such as AFCAC will need to develop and implement Safety Initiatives to assist States in improving their aviation safety oversight system. In this regard and in accordance with its mission, AFCAC conducts programmes aimed at enhancing aviation safety in Africa, such as the Africa and Indian Ocean - Cooperative Inspectorate Scheme (AFI-CIS) and the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) in cooperation with ICAO.
